Top 3 Back-to-School Tips for Faculty and Staff: Fall 2019

When we say “connect to tech,” we mean more than just plugging in to your device. At the Digital University, technology plays a pivotal role in limitless learning and discovery. Connecting to tech means going beyond the limitations of the status quo to inspire you, your peersand tomorrow’s headlines.  

Sound like a tall order as summer winds down? Let’s start simple with three key tips to rebooting your Northeastern experience as new students begin their own. 

Secure Your Account 

Your myNortheastern username and password provides access to many online university sites —and our online security best practices are a big part of keeping your account protected. Safeguard your experience by following the Northeastern University Appropriate Use of Computer and Network Resources Policy, enrolling your account in two-factor authentication, and forwarding any suspicious emails you receive to phishcatcher@northeastern.edu.

 

Stay Connected

NUwave is the secure wireless network for laptops, phones, and other personal devices across campus. For faculty and staff who need wired connection to the internet or other computer resources, NUnet can be used to access shared network drives and network printers. The university’s VPN provides safe and secure remote access to NUnet resources from off-campus locations.  

Key sites to be aware of are my.northeastern.edunortheastern.blackboard.com, and sail.northeastern.edu. These sites serve as central access to university services and systems, our online classroom portal, and SAILour Self-Authored Integrated Learning system designed for deeper learning.

 

Learn As You Go

There are many training opportunities for faculty and staff to gain skills and receive professional development. Combined, LinkedIn Learning and the Gartner IT Library are two services that offer over 105,000 courses, documents, and research for discovering knowledge and making a difference. When it comes to hands-on training, there are plenty of workshops to attend both in-person and online.
