Gaining Skills, and How to Get There: LinkedIn Learning at Northeastern

Sep 11, 2019

“Learning never exhausts the mind,” Leonardo Da Vinci has been quoted. After upgrading from Lynda to LinkedIn Learning, the Northeastern community has been learning in marathons.

Many students, faculty, and staff have signed on to develop their skillsets. Since the July upgrade, stats show:

  • 5,487 unique logins
  • One hour and 37 minutes spent per viewer on average
  • 4,062 hours viewed
  • 893 completed courses
  • 55,554 videos watched

The service offers more than 5,000 on-demand courses for professional development in business, creative, and technology fields. Currently, the top five courses taken by the Northeastern community reflect trends in the growing need across the job market for high-tech skills. We’re watching:

These courses also meet the needs of today’s learners by being accessible offline, via mobile.

Outside of Northeastern University, users must pay to access courses on LinkedIn Learning—but for our community members, the service is provided at no additional cost. This means anyone across disciplines and departments can use the same library of videos as those formerly on Lynda—but with a new look and more user-friendly experience—while saving money on key training for career readiness.

One thing to be aware of? Not all Lynda links will redirect to LinkedIn Learning automatically.

For instance, links from an instructor’s Blackboard course previously needed to be added using Build Content>Lynda.com Course.

Course links need now to be added using the LinkedIn Learning Partner Connect integration in Blackboard, or by linking to LinkedIn Learning URL before December 31, 2019.
